There's two ways you can do that, there's the Patch Tool or the Spot Healing Brush. I prefer the patch tool, but the brush can be just as effective for clearing up a bad complexion.

Model was pretty beautiful even before the touch up. :) I was wondering, I notice you use the quick mask and switch to selection, but how get from a to b to c so quickly. How I would do it is select everything and use a fill layer making it completely black and then multiply or overlay then mess with the opacity. You seem to be able to cut out almost all those steps. Could you give me some pointers? BTW, great work. Thumbs Up. -Devin

yes it's true, I'm actually looking for a male picture, someone average, and make real discreet retouches, just to get the result of a pro photograph, like if it was taken in a studio. This one was just to show my skills and push it quite far, i know it does'nt please, cause it is frightening to see how far we can go. I think smoothing skin is ok, make light softer etc, color contrasts and level retouching is fine, but all the body retouching and face details is often way too much. greets

thanks, you're defenitely right about the arm, i don't know how I did it, but i forgot to finish that one, my mistake :) I did it between two jobs and just went a bit too fast i guess :d And as for the liquify part, i really love to use it, but like it to remain discreet, and as you found out yourself it's to avoid the blurry pixels afterwards that i transform the parts, especially for this picture, not all of them give us these opportunities. greets matt

very interesting retouch, you like a lot of layers! How long did this take? So you're not huge on Liquify, I saw you transforming copied body parts instead, probably less destructive since you're working with pre-existing pixels. I agree with BoomBoomy, the arm looks a little thin, alien-esque, but nice job overall.

Hi, I don't think that that's a good retouch of the picture. When you retouch the most impportant thing is to highlight the beautiful things about the picture, not to transforme them into something else. :/ I would've lit up the hair and under the eyes. Maybe recoulored the lip and eyes. Because the pic itself is good.

CS2, CS3, and now CS4 (Beta) is just the natural succession of the program. Obviously the latest version will have the most options. But don't get fooled into thinking you'll need everything in a CS3 or CS4 most times people are overwhelmed and never able to learn it. I haven't upgraded my photoshop since '05 when I got CS2 prior to that I had photoshop 7 in '02.

Its under the same tool family as the brush but not the same thing. Click the brush tool and hold it down until you see the other tools appear. Alternatively, you can press (Shift + B) to rotate threw the different brush/pencil tools.

If thats your first retouch than not a bad job. I'm joking, that was amazing, thanks for sharing with the world. Also I like your unique style that becomes apparent at the end with the shadows etc. Dont be giving away your technique for nothing to lazy people or free loaders. Being told techniques and learning are two different things, those that want to learn will watch your video over and over again, pausing and slowing it down. Others will just expect to be given it on a plate.

Thats gaussian blur, then change the layer mode to overlay. Make sure you're selecting the skin only, then do like him and erase the blur from eyes, lips and nostrils (hair as well if you had it selected).

Yep, I'm "old" (over 35) and remember way back in the Dark Ages (8 years ago) when a photographer had to rely on his eye and his ability to "read" TIME, NOT his computer. Because it's a combination of many techniques.. Watch a tutorial on liquifying, patch, healing brush, pen tools, gaussian blur, levels, curves, channels & whatever else I forgot. Watch separate techniques on their own and learn to combine them on your own.

Nice job. However, this just me, but when ever I see pictures of faces in glamor mags, the skin texture is always washed out. It's good to get rid of blemishes and wrinkles, but smoothing out the skin makes it look like it was retouched.
